Giving to TCCS

The legacy and ministry of Tri-Cities Christian Schools has remained strong for more than 35 years—to be a school of influence characterized by academic excellence and commitment to training tomorrow’s Christian leaders. God’s blessing has been evident as TCCS has grown into a community of learning that is setting the standard for Christian education in the Tri-Cities area. Christian parents want a superior quality, Christ-centered education for their children, and strong communities that will work together to make that happen. Since 1973, TCCS has served our region as a partner in ministry with the family and church, demonstrating a commitment to meet the needs of students as they prepare to take their place in the world. The next generation of Christian leaders is being raised to impact their peers with wisdom, faith, and integrity and to see the effect they can have locally, nationally and abroad.

Today, TCCS is able to provide a quality education in a dynamic Christian environment at a reasonable tuition cost to families. Tuition covers approximately 80-90% of the cost of educating a student at a private school. It does not cover the construction of new buildings and the development of new programs. Additional funding is sought from friends, parents, grandparents, alumni, businesses and foundations.

Generosity and faithfulness is in no short supply at TCCS. We have participated in a variety of community service, ministry, and missions projects over the years including:

  • A yearly mission trip for high school students, parents, and staff to Belize, Central America in partnership with Body and Soul Ministries in Belmopan, Belize.
  • Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Ministry
  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  • Second Harvest Food Bank
  • 88.3 WCQR
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Local Crisis Pregnancy Centers
  • Hale’s Community Ministries in Elizabethton, Tennessee
  • Several nursing and retirement homes across the region
  • Harvest Home, Duffield, Virginia
  • Haven of Rest, Bristol, Virginia
  • Gideons International
  • Keep Bristol Beautiful
  • CBM Bible Ministries, Watauga, Tennessee
  • Mountain Mission School, Grundy, Virginia
  • Students gave over $3,500 toward the relief effort in Haiti, which was donated to Samaritan’s Purse and Agape Flights who are ministering directly to help meet the needs of the Haitian people.

Why Give to TCCS?

Strategic Growth

TCCS has devised a plan to meet the growing needs for Christian education in our community. The Board of Trustees has identified 5 key areas necessary for the continued growth of our school. The 5 areas include:

  • Increasing teacher salaries
  • Expanding the athletic program
  • Funding student scholarships
  • Making capital improvements
  • Providing for a Debt-Free Initiative

We Need Your Help

  • Because it is the only way for the school to exist and improve since the school does not receive government funding. The present existence and the quality of its future existence depend on donations.
  • Because of the sacrificial giving of people in the past who laid the foundation for today's excellence by organizing the school, purchasing land, constructing buildings, and supporting operations. Your help is now needed.
  • Because of the future of the children who will be encouraged to grow as Jesus did in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.
  • Because of the impact on the world that TCCS students will exert.
  • Because this is God's school and the Bible says "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Ways to Give

Your Participation

Cash or Check

Cash gifts are the simplest and most common form of giving to the school. Cash gifts are tax deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income in the year of your gift. If the gift exceeds 50% the remainder may be carried over and used as a deduction up to five years. Checks should be made payable to Tri-Cities Christian Schools.

Company Matching Gifts

A number of companies have matching gift programs in which the company matches gifts made by employees. Please check with your company to see if they participate.

In Honor

Many friends of TCCS find the school to be a good place to honor loved ones on special occasions. Upon receipt of your gift, both you and the loved one will receive notification. For any donation of $1200 or more, you are eligible for a banner partnership in which to display your honorary information in the gymnasium.

In Memory

Often at the passing of a friend of TCCS, the school becomes a recipient of memorial gifts. Upon receipt of gifts, the family and the giver receive notification. In the 2009/2010 school year, memorial gifts were made on behalf of:

  • Coach Bob Anderson, long-time coach and friend to TCCS
  • Peggy Smith, Grandmother to Bailey, Madilyn, and Josiah Griswold

Securities

Giving securities may be the most advantageous way to give. You may receive favorable tax consequences by giving stocks that have appreciated. TCCS can accept readily marketable securities such as those traded on a stock exchange. Such gifts will most probably be sold immediately by the school. The value of the securities is the average of the high and low of the stock on the date of the gift.

Publicly Traded Securities

  • Readily marketable securities such as those traded on a stock exchange are accepted by Tri-Cities Christian Schools.
  • Gift securities are to be sold immediately unless there is good reason for holding them for a brief time.
  • The value of the securities is the average of the high and low of the stock on the date of the gift.

Real Estate

  • Giving real estate that has appreciated in value allows the donor to receive credit for the present value without paying capital gains tax. There are no gift taxes and the property is removed from your estate avoiding estate taxes.
  • Title to each property donated shall be held in the name of Tri-Cities Christian Schools.
  • Gifts and requests of real property will be accepted if the benefits exceed the risks, expenses and efforts required to hold, maintain, manage or dispose of the property.
  • Survey and title policy are to be provided at the time of acquisition.
  • A recent appraisal and IRS Form 8283 shall be submitted to the school business office if the donor intends to use the donation for tax purposes.

Does participation really matter?

Yes! High participation of parents and grandparents who give regularly to TCCS is a vote of confidence, a sign that families invest in their children's welfare and support the school's mission. This percentage can also have an impact on gifts from outside sources; most foundations consider family participation rates before agreeing to donate funds to a school.

Thank You!

  • For giving at the same level as last year, because you are consistently in support of TCCS.
  • For giving this year more than you gave last year, because you are in a financial position to do so, and you know others may not be as fortunate during this economic time.
  • For giving this year, even though you cannot give as much as you gave last year.
  • For giving a gift this year, even though last year you were unable to, because you realize the importance of participating.
